The Story of CIAC Like any complex, inter-related industry, the key segments of the Chicago construction community have long sought to improve relationships and to bring a better final product to clients at the most economical cost. But until CIAC was founded in 1967, efforts in this direction were uncoordinated. CIAC formalized the process - gradually bringing all industry segments under the same roof for open discussion and resolution of critical issues. CIAC is composed of construction industry leaders, representing architect, engineer, specification writer, builder, mechanical contractor, electrical contractor, and specialty subcontractor associations. Through a working committee of Co-Chairs, one from each of the member organizations, the group explores major industry problems and issues to seek consensus solutions which are equitable to all parties. Periodically, a recommendation is proposed on an industry-related problem and once all Co-Chairs agree to the proposed recommendation, each sponsor organization must endorse it before it is formally adopted and issued as a CIAC Recommendation. CIAC Objectives 1. To establish guidelines so that all segments of the building industry can work harmoniously, efficiently and cooperatively; 2. To seek equitable solutions to industry-related problems, and to formulate logical guidelines which delineate clearly the functions, duties, and expected performance levels to which those in the building industry should adhere; and 3. To prepare and disseminate these recommendations to all segments of the building industry. |
